Gary Neville feels that Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou made a big error by crashing out of the Carabao Cup last week.
Ange Postecoglou exited the Carabao Cup last week and Gary Neville thinks the Tottenham Hotspur boss should have given it more attention.
Neville was speaking on The Gary Neville Podcast as he took stock of the Premier League table with the first international break upon us.
For all the positivity around Tottenham, Neville does think there is actually a ‘big negative’ around Spurs – their Carabao Cup exit.
Tottenham drew 1-1 with Fulham in the Carabao Cup last week and ended up going out on penalties.
Postecoglou made nine changes for the game as he rotated his squad and ended up paying the price.
Neville thinks that Tottenham crashing out of the Carabao Cup ‘slipped through’ because the focus was mostly on the transfer deadline last week.
Neville believes that Postecoglou should have taken the Carabao Cup seriously because it was a real chance to win silverware, just like the FA Cup.
The former Manchester United defender accepts that Tottenham have been ‘really good’ in the Premier League but wasn’t happy with their Carabao Cup exit.
“Only one small negative – I say a small negative but I think it’s quite a big negative but it almost slipped through in midweek because everybody was sort of concentrating on other things – but when they went out of the Carabao Cup, that was like a… don’t do that! Don’t go out of the Carabao Cup!” said Neville. “I know they were playing Fulham, but that’s one of the two trophies you can probably win, so don’t go out of that, because if you want to try and win a trophy and turn the fortunes of the club around and bring silverware, then that’s one of the two you really need to pay attention to, so that’s the negative, but in the league they have been really good,” he added.

At least Tottenham defeat hasn’t halted Ange Postecoglou momentum
Postecoglou wanted to learn more about his squad with his team selection at Fulham, which he will have utilised having missed out on a pre-season friendly.
A game against Leicester was postponed so Postecoglou wanted to give a chance to some fringe players.
It backfired badly and Spurs now only realistically have the FA Cup to aim for this season, which isn’t ideal.

There was a real fear that Tottenham would take a real hit after that defeat with some fans really unhappy with the team selection at Fulham.
Spurs responded in style though, absolutely hammering Burnley 5-2 at Turf Moor.
Some of the football Tottenham are playing is simply sensational right now with attacking football even easier on the eye than the Mauricio Pochettino days.
Hopefully the trophies will come but, for now, Tottenham fans seem to be loving life under Postecoglou.
