Liverpool are right in the mix in the race for the Premier League title.

Assistant Manager Gary Neville looks on during an England training session at St Georges Park on May 30, 2016 in Burton on Trent, England.

Gary Neville suggested that Liverpool will have a better chance of winning the Premier League title if they get knocked out of the Champions League against Bayern Munich next week, when speaking on the Gary Neville Podcast.

The Reds currently sit in second spot in the Premier League table, one point adrift of league leaders Manchester City, and it seems as though Jürgen Klopp’s men are starting to feel the pressure, having drawn four of their last six league outings.

Liverpool have not won the top flight title since 1990, and their fans are desperate for their club to end that barren run this season.

The Merseyside outfit will, of course, want to advance through to the quarter-finals of the Champions League, but might they be better served in exiting the competition when they travel to Munich next week?

Gary Neville certainly thinks so.

The Sky Sports pundit suggested that a ‘clean fixture list’ would be hugely beneficial for Liverpool in the race for the Premier League title, when speaking on the Gary Neville Podcast:

“I always thought that if Liverpool could win the league this season then they’d need a clean fixture list. I’m going to say it: go out against Bayern Munich. That sounds like madness.”

Liverpool’s Champions League clash with Bayern is sandwiched by Premier League games at home to Burnley and away at Fulham, and Klopp’s team selections for those games will provide a big indication as to what trophy he is prioritising this season.
