Gary Neville has claimed on Sky Sports that Tottenham Hotspur are going to struggle during the early stages of the Premier League season.

Spurs begin their Premier League campaign on Saturday, as they travel to Tyneside to face Newcastle United at lunchtime in what is a lunchtime kick-off. Spurs kicked off their 2017-18 campaign in Newcastle, winning 2-0.

Mauricio Pochettino and chairman Daniel Levy are yet to make any signings this summer, with the majority of their squad returning to training only on Monday after nine players returned on Monday.

The club’s move to their new Stadium also sees Spurs play three of their first four Premier League games away from home, and Neville reckons Pochettino’s side will struggle – though he commended the Argentine for his relaxed manner.

“You look at Tottenham and they are moving to a new stadium and they are playing a lot of away games at the start,” Neville said.

“They had nine players who played right to the end of the World Cup and only came back on Monday. The odds are stacked against them – but it doesn’t seem to panic Mauricio Pochettino. He seems to be relaxed about it.”

Hugo Lloris, Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld, Mousa Dembele, Kieran Trippier, Eric Dier, Danny Rose, Harry Kane and Dele Alli all returned to training on Monday, after reaching the semi-finals of the World Cup.

All nine players are unlikely to feature for Spurs against Newcastle, meaning Michel Vorm could start in goal and Fernando Llorente may be given a chance to lead the line.
