Gary Neville struck a chord with West Ham United fans after criticising David Moyes following the 1-1 draw with Stoke City on Monday night.
West Ham knew a win over Stoke would all but secure Premier League survival on Monday night.
The Hammers dominated the game without threatening too often and things got hairy when Peter Crouch gave the Potters the lead late on.
Substitute Andy Carroll came to the rescue, though, with a last minute strike as David Moyes’ side edged seven points clear of the bottom three with five games to go.
Moyes is only on a short-term contract and reports claim the Scot would be offered a longer-term deal if he kept the East Londoners up.
But West Ham may need to think long and hard about that decision regardless with supporters already growing tired of his tactics after he played much of the home game with Marko Arnautovic ploughing a lonely furrow up front on his own.
Andy Carroll and Javier Hernandez were left on the bench alongside playmaker Manuel Lanzini.
And Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville echoed the frustrations of Hammers fans when he suggested on Monday Night Football that the former Manchester United boss had set his side up too negatively.
“There was just no goals on the pitch…Marko Arnautovic I think the best he’s ever got in a season is 11… the game opened up and when the goalscorers (Crouch, Carroll and Hernandez) came on,” Neville told Monday Night Football.
“Maybe David Moyes in hindsight will reflect and think ‘Maybe I should have been more positive and played two up top’, maybe (he should have) gone with Carroll and Arnautovic or Chicharito earlier in the game to actually put some pressure on the Stoke defence.”
Neville said Paul Lambert tactically outdid Moyes in the game and added that but for the late goal, his plan paid off.
