Liverpool picked up a huge victory in their battle to win the title yesterday.

Gary Neville has told Sky Sports, during their live coverage of Liverpool’s match against Tottenham Hotspur, that he could feel the tension around Anfield yesterday.

Liverpool managed to get past Tottenham in the most dramatic of circumstances, as a Toby Alderweireld own goal in the last moments provided them with the three points.

Spurs had proved a match for the Reds for most of the game, and Neville believes that the Anfield crowd may need to try harder to disguise their nerves in the coming weeks.

Neville said: “You can feel the tension in this ground. You’ve got six more of these and the feeling will be exactly the same if there’s only one goal in it and they haven’t got a comfortable lead.”

If Liverpool had failed to beat Tottenham yesterday it would have been a hammer blow to their title chances, as they look to beat Manchester City to top spot.

Liverpool are currently two points clear of City, but Pep Guardiola’s men have a game in hand.

The Anfield crowd will now be hoping to cheer their side on to victories in all their remaining home games, although tough tests still remain.

Liverpool are set to take on Chelsea, Huddersfield and Wolves in their final three home matches this term.
