The Sky Sports pundit thinks Manchester United are in a similar position to what Tottenham Hotspur were in way back in 2014.
Gary Neville suggested that the Manchester United squad that Ole Gunnar Solskjær has at his disposal is similar to the one inherited by Mauricio Pochettino at Tottenham nearly five years ago, when speaking exclusively to Sky Sports.
United will once again miss out on the top four this season, making it four times out of the last six campaigns where they have missed out on qualifying for the Champions League through their league position, whilst Spurs have gone from strength-to-strength during the course of the same period.
Ok, Tottenham have not been at their best this term, but they are all but certain to finish inside the top four for the fourth consecutive season, and they are now widely regarded to be genuine challengers for honours, both domestically and on the continent.
Unfortunately for United fans, the same cannot be said of Solskjær’s side.
Neville spoke exclusively to Sky Sports yesterday, and highlighted how similar this crop of United players are to the Tottenham class of 2014:
“This isn’t a team at all. It reminds me of the Tottenham group Mauricio Pochettino inherited, with Kaboul, Adebayor, Capoue in, a group of individuals without any real spirit – he dismantled it piece by piece.”
The good news for United is that Tottenham have proven that it is possible to turn things around, with good management and sensible board room decisions, but whether Solskjær is the right man for the job at Old Trafford remains to be seen.
