Gary Neville comments on Leeds United’s Eddie Nketiah’s future

Leeds United have brought in Eddie Nketiah on loan from Arsenal, with Unai Emery opting to loan out the youngster.

Gary Neville has told Sky Sports, during their live coverage of Leeds United’s match against Salford City, that he thinks Eddie Nketiah will want to return to Arsenal at the end of his loan spell.

Nketiah has moved to Leeds on loan, and has got off to a flying start, after scoring on debut last night.

The young striker hit the back of the net as Leeds beat Salford City 3-0 in the Carabao Cup.

There has been some suggestions from Leeds supporters that the dream scenario would be for Nketiah to help them earn promotion then land him on a permanent transfer.

But Neville feels that Nketiah will now be eyeing up a spot in Arsenal’s first-team.

He said: “If you’re going to go on loan I think if you’re coming from a club like Arsenal, you’re going to want to go to a club that’s representative of what you’re going to face. Ultimately he’ll want to go back to Arsenal and play in their first-team.

“To go to Leeds, who are a big club, and play in front of a big crowd every week with real pressure on and expectation to get up. He’s basically going to get exposed to a high level of football in a demanding environment. It’s a win, win, win for Nketiah. It’s a great loan move for him, Leeds will hope it pays off for them too.”

Ex-Leeds goalkeeper Paul Robinson was also working as a pundit for Sky last night, and he was impressed by what he saw from the lively Nketiah.

“It’ll give him confidence,” he said. “I was very impressed with him tonight. He fitted in well, Costa as well.

“They interchanged well and kept the ball well. When the game wore on and they started getting in behind that’s when he came into his own. You can see that’s his game and you can see he’s going to be full of goals.”

Nketiah’s arrival at Leeds has led to supporters desperately hoping that he will increase Marcelo Bielsa’s side’s scoring threat.

Patrick Bamford is carrying much of Leeds’ goalscoring hopes currently, but he has not always looked the most clinical in the box.

Nketiah could now be pushing to start Leeds’ next game after scoring, with Marcelo Bielsa’s men in action at the weekend against Wigan Athletic.
