Leeds United face a crucial decision concerning three of their senior players after Gary Neville questioned their readiness for the Premier League.
The 3-5-2 formation introduced by Daniel Farke has brought success, but it has also left some players unsure of their roles.
Noah Okafor, who began the season on the wing, has been moved into a more central role to fit the new system.
On the other hand, Joel Piroe and Willy Gnonto have not been able to secure regular places in the line-up this season, despite being key figures during Leeds’ promotion campaign.
Now, former full-back Gary Neville weighed in on Piroe’s and Gnonto’s situation, claiming they lack the necessary strength to play in the Premier League.
Gary Neville addresses Joel Piroe and Willy Gnonto’s Premier League futures

Neville questioned whether Piroe, Gnonto and Dan James have what it takes to handle the physical demands of top-flight football in England.
While he acknowledged their ability on the ball, the Manchester United legend pointed out that the Premier League has become more demanding in recent years, which could make it difficult for them to secure regular roles at Leeds.
He said on the Gary Neville Podcast for Sky Sports: “I watched them earlier on the season when they had, I think, Gnonto and James in wide areas and Piroe, I think, up front. I thought they were just a little bit lightweight.
“They’re talented players, those lads, don’t get me wrong. They’ve got a lot about them. I like Gnonto particularly.
“James is a threat on the counter-attack. But you’re getting into winter, you’re in the Premier League. This league has become more and more physical over the last two or three years.
“It’s gone back 15, 20 years in respect to the size of the players, the set pieces, the balls into the box, the long balls forward, the throw-ins. Everyone’s now demanding aerial duels to be won. And physicality and aggression.”
Leeds United face transfer decisions as January window approaches
With the January transfer window closing in, Leeds United know they need to strengthen the squad if they are going to avoid a return to the Championship.
The club had already indicated during the summer that they were operating near the PSR limits, meaning that sales could be necessary before any new signings can be made in January.
Given that context, players like Piroe and Gnonto might find themselves on the list of potential departures as Leeds try to create some financial flexibility.
This situation will also be influenced by Farke’s tactical decisions. If he sticks with a three-centre-back system, it could change where Leeds need to focus their recruitment efforts.
