Gary Neville has claimed that Dominic Calvert-Lewin caused Tottenham duo, Toby Alderweireld and Eric Dier, ‘lots of problems’ yesterday, as he told Sky Sports PL (13/09/20 at 6:15 pm)

Everton recorded a deserved 1-0 win when Calvert-Lewin’s powerful header from Lucas Digne’s free-kick ensured that Carlo Ancelotti’s men started off the Premier League season in a strong fashion.

After another summer of spending, this opening win was much-needed for the Toffees, but Spurs fell flat and produced a potentially worryingly lethargic display.

During his commentary stint, Neville praised Calvert-Lewin for the manner in which he scored his goal and gave a mention to Dier for how he defended the set-piece situation.

“The delivery is fantastic,” Neville told Sky Sports. “The leap and header from Calvert-Lewin is really special. That is absolutely fantastic.

“It’s Eric Dier who he ends up against. Dier announces that he wants to be a centre-back. Well, they are the headers you have to win. Calvert-Lewin gets up early. The spring is wonderful. The header even better. No chance Lloris. What a goal.

“It’s a good start for him to the season. He has caused Alderweireld and Dier lots of problems as well. He has occupied them both.”

Even though this is the first Premier League game of the season, it just goes to show how much effect one defeat or one win can have on a team.

For the Everton supporters, whilst they won’t be getting carried away yet, there will be a sense of relief that they now have something to build on.

But for those in North London, they will feel that everything that has been built over the years under Mauricio Pochettino is now slowly being dismantled in front of their eyes.
