Gary Neville said on Sky Sports Football (9:04pm, April 3, 2021) that Arsenal badly missed Granit Xhaka against Liverpool.

Arsenal suffered a 3-0 defeat to Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium in the Premier League on Saturday evening.

Xhaka missed training on Friday and did not feature against the Reds due to illness.

Thomas Partey and Daniel Ceballos, on loan from Real Madrid, were the two central midfielders against the Reds.

Former Manchester United defender Neville was on co-commentary duty for the match on Sky Sports, and he said at the start of the second half that the Gunners were missing the Switzerland international.

Neville said in the 46th minute of the match on Sky Sports Football (9:04pm, April 3, 2021) about Arsenal missing Xhaka: “I think so, yeah, I think so. I think Ceballos and Partey in midfield just haven’t been able to get a grip of the game.”

Important player for Arsenal

Xhaka is not exactly a world-class midfielder, but the Switzerland international is a very important player for Arsenal and is a regular in the team.

The 28-year-old has formed a good understanding with Partey in the middle of the park which Ceballos has not.

Hopefully for Arsenal, Xhaka will be back soon, as the Gunners need him and Partey to play well in the final weeks of the season to still finish in the Premier League top four and win the Europa League.
