Gary Neville has stated that Alexandre Lacazette is going to get ‘a lot more football’ for Arsenal now, as he told Sky Sports during his commentary stint.

The former right-back praised Lacazette for ‘doing well’ at Elland Road at the weekend and helping his Arsenal side put four goals past the relegation-threatened outfit.

With Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang out of the picture, after being stripped of the captain’s armband, it is Lacazette who has been handed that role by Mikel Arteta – albeit on a temporary basis.

Arsenal have won three games on the bounce during that period and he has scored or assisted in each one of those matches.

Lacazette, 30, should have got on the scoresheet in Yorkshire, but he just didn’t have his shooting boots on, as Gabriel Martinelli ran riot instead.

This is what Neville had to say about Lacazette and the selfish work he does to the benefit of his teammates.

“He has done very well Lacazette in the game,” said Neville. “His positions have been really good, in terms of tracking people away. The centre-backs and providing space for others.

“What is happening with Aubameyang, he is going to get a lot more football, you would imagine.”

Lacazette’s contract in North London is due to expire at the end of the season and there aren’t any signs that he will put his signature down on the dotted line.

Perhaps these recent events, such as being made captain and more game time, will persuade him to extend his stay.

Either way, it looks as though he might just be the interim captain until the end of the season, unless Arteta makes a call before then.

But this has been a big week for someone like Arteta because, after his call to strip Aubameyang, his team have won three out of three and they have done their talking on the football pitch.
