Gary Neville told Sky Sports Euro Podcast that reported Arsenal and Tottenham target, Raheem Sterling, has ‘torn it up’ for years.
Even though Sterling has won numerous trophies in Manchester City colours, there does seem to be some uncertainty over his future.
Eurosport have previously claimed that Arsenal are trying to bring Sterling to the club, whilst the speedster is also being used in a potential exchange with Tottenham striker, Harry Kane.
Either way, his future is up in the air, and after an indifferent 2020/21 campaign, it resulted in many questioning him ahead of Euro 2020.
But Neville made it clear that he didn’t ‘quite understand’ the question marks over his head before the tournament started.
“Well, he has been a key player,” said Neville. “Raheem is someone for Manchester City during this past three or four years has basically torn it up.
“His goals and assists have got to a level of real high quality for England and Manchester City.
“To a level when he was at Liverpool, you might have viewed him as being inconsistent and erratic in his final moment.
“There were rumours going into the tournament about the season he had. I didn’t quite get that really. I know he wasn’t at his best at the end. But over the season, I think he had a decent season.”
Both Arsenal and Tottenham aren’t really in situations where they can lure someone like Sterling towards their direction.
For the Gunners, they are seemingly keen on bringing the £49 million attacker (BBC Sport) to North London, but that’s not the case for their neighbours.
It’s been well-documented that Harry Kane is a target for Manchester City this summer.
But it seems as though the ex-Liverpool player is being used to try and persuade Daniel Levy to sell Kane to Man City.
Whatever happens, with his two goals from three Euro 2020 games, Sterling is showing those at the Etihad why they are making a mistake in trying to part ways with him.
