The Liverpool left-back has been mightily impressive since making his move to Anfield in 2017.
Gary Neville admitted that he didn’t think Andrew Robertson was good enough when Liverpool signed the Scot from Hull City in the summer of 2017, when speaking during Sky Sports’ broadcast of last night’s match between the Reds and Southampton.
The 25-year-old cost Liverpool £8 million, and he is proving to be worth every penny, establishing himself as one of Jürgen Klopp’s most important players.
Robertson is a sound defender, as well as being a real threat going forward down the Reds’ left flank, and he is arguably one of the Premier League’s and Europe’s best left-backs.
And he is proving many fans and pundits wrong along the way.
Neville admitted that he got it wrong when Liverpool signed the Scotland international nearly two years ago, when speaking during Sky Sports’ broadcast of last night’s match:
“I got it completely wrong. I didn’t think he was good enough defensively. I’d watched him for Scotland and Hull and knew he was good going forward. I didn’t think he would be good enough at the top level against the best wingers.”
Liverpool currently sit top of the Premier League table, two points clear of Manchester City, although Pep Guardiola’s men have a game in hand.
And if Robertson continues his fine form, the Reds have every chance of ending their 29-year wait for a top flight title.
