Lewie Coyle has made just three first team appearances for Leeds United this season.

Garry Monk has urged Leeds United supporters not to forget about Lewie Coyle in the Yorkshire Evening Post.

With Gaetano Berardi returning to fitness, it is generally considered a straight fight between him and Luke Ayling for the right-back spot.

However, Monk insists that Coyle still has a chance of breaking into his first-team plans – as he has impressed in training.

“Let’s not forget Coyley as well,” Monk said. “He’s been doing excellent. He’s fantastic.

“He’s a young player who has been working very hard as well and he is waiting for his chance and pushing very hard so there’s competition throughout the squad.”

Coyle made his first team breakthrough with Leeds last season, and generally impressed.

The 20-year-old has only played three times this term for Leeds, though, with only one of these appearances being in the Championship.

Coyle has played in both of Leeds’ EFL Cup matches to date, meaning he could be in line to start this evening against Blackburn Rovers.

Leeds head into the cup match after being victorious in their last two matches, and Monk has already outlined his desire for his side to build on their momentum by continuing their winning run.
