West Bromwich Albion drew with Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley in the Premier League at the weekend.
The Baggies held Tottenham to a 1-1 draw in the Premier League match at the Wembley Stadium in London on Saturday afternoon.
The visiting team scored an early goal and then defended deep, with the home fans booing goalkeeper Foster throughout the 90 minutes.
The Spurs fans thought that the 34-year-old goalkeeper was wasting time and taking too long over goal-kicks.
West Brom caretaker-manager Megson has defended Foster, and has claimed that he was not trying to waste time.
Megson told The Birmingham Mail when asked about Tottenham fans moaning about Foster: “If you’ve got to fall back on people getting the hump for time wasting…
“I don’t think Ben took immeasurably longer than Hugo Lloris did. With all the whistling, cat calls and the moaning and groaning every time he got near the ball, it just made it seem a little bit longer. That wasn’t a tactic as such.
“Nobody mentioned that because I like high-tempo stuff and the players like playing like that. That was just the crowd getting involved.”
The performance of West Brom against Tottenham at Wembley on Saturday afternoon was quite encouraging, and the fans will hope that the team can now kick on.
The Baggies are in a relegation battle, and they need to put together a run of positive results soon in order to ease the pressure on themselves.
West Brom also need to appoint a permanent successor to Tony Pulis.
