Sharp was on the receiving end of unsavoury comments made by his new Sheffield United colleague in 2017.

Gary Madine has explained how Billy Sharp had an unlikely input on the former Sheffield Wednesday striker’s transfer from Cardiff City to Sheffield United.
Madine surprised many by making the six-month switch to the Blades on loan earlier today (Monday).
The 28-year-old’s Wednesday ties – not to mention his well-documented outburst about the United captain, Sharp, while playing for Bolton Wanderers – have made him an unpopular guest at Bramall Lane down the years.
But Sharp – who later played down his new teammate’s 2017 comments – is at least partly responsible for Madine’s arrival, it seems.
Asked how he has settled in so far, Madine told the official Sheffield United Youtube channel: “Yeah, fine. I know a few of the lads already. And I think Billy’s put in a good word to the gaffer (Chris Wilder) – he said I’d be a good bit of recruitment. So I’m grateful for that and hopefully I can come and repay that faith and score some goals.”

Madine could face two of his former clubs in as many months, and said about the prospect: “It’ll be strange not being on the opposition team (against) Bolton and Sheffield Wednesday, but I’m a Blade now and all I want to do is win now and score goals.”
Madine played alongside the Sheffield United midfielders, John Fleck and Oliver Norwood, at Coventry City and Carlisle United, respectively, as well as the loaned-out Blades striker, Caolan Lavery, at Sheffield Wednesday.
