Celtic winger Gary Mackay-Steven has told The Glasgow Evening Times that he hopes that Moussa Dembele does not leave the club in the summer transfer window.

According to The Glasgow Evening Times, Chelsea wanted to sign Dembele from Celtic in the January transfer window.

The Independent has credited Manchester United and Chelsea with interest in Dembele, while The Mirror has claimed that Arsenal want the youngster in the summer.

Dembele has been superb for Celtic, scoring 32 goals in 46 appearances in all competitions so far this season.

Celtic winger Mackay-Steven hopes that Dembele remains at Celtic Park next season, and has also spoken highly of him.

“He is an outstanding player,” Mackay-Steven told The Glasgow Evening Times about Dembele. “He is so calm on the ball and just a really laid-back guy. Nothing seems to get to him, in terms of pressure before big games or anything like that.

“He just seems to have a natural temperament for going on and playing football, no matter what is at stake.

“We feel lucky to have him. He was an outstanding signing for the club and you have seen that this season with the quality of performances that he has produced.

“It will be between him and the club what his long-term future is but I hope that he is here for as long as possible because is quality is obvious.”

Dembele is a very talented and promising forward, and at 20 years of age, he is only going to improve.

Celtic have sold some of their best players over the years, such as Virgil van Dijk, Victor Wanyama and Fraser Forster, and it could be hard for them to keep hold of the Frenchman if a top Premier League club comes call in the summer transfer window.

One suspects that Dembele will have the final decision on his future. Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers will surely not want his best striker to leave in the summer even if the club are offered a lot of money.
