Gary Lineker could not resist making a joke as rumours swirl over a potential Arsenal takeover bid.

The Telegraph have reported today that Arsenal could be the subject of interest from Spotify founder Daniel Ek, with his bid backed up with club legends like Patrick Vieira, Thierry Henry and Dennis Bergkamp.

The news has created great excitement around the Emirates Stadium with supporters.

And Lineker used the opportunity to joke about Ek’s Spotify links on Twitter.

Arsenal certainly aren’t going for a song, given that their valuation is said to be £2 billion (Telegraph).

Even a bid of that sum may not be enough to buy the club either, as the Daily Mirror says that Stan Kroenke has no intention of selling up.

Arsenal fans have protested heavily against Kroenke’s ownership, after the Super League fiasco of last week.

There is, of course, no guarantees that whoever takes over at Arsenal would be any more trustworthy.

But to see so many club legends also on board with Ek’s bid would surely immediately form a greater bond with the Arsenal supporters than the Kroenkes ever have during their time at the club.

Josh Kroenke did at least address Arsenal fans last week, but that question and answer session was conducted more out of necessity than a want to communicate with supporters.

It seems almost impossible that Arsenal’s current owners will be able to win the faith back of the Gunners supporters now.

However, if they could invest over the summer, that may just reduce some of the anger currently being felt by Arsenal’s supporters towards them.

Ian Wright also reacted to protests against Arsenal’s board last night, by stating that he wants a change, as the pressure builds.

Speaking on Match of the Day 2, he said: “It’s very difficult when you’re a club that you have mottos like ‘show class when nobody is watching’ and what you represent.

“I knew when this was announced our club would be front and centre the way we have been run up until this point because of our owners. They probably need this and that makes me sad.

“I’m with the fans, I’d like them to go. But Josh Kroenke has already said that they’re not going anywhere and now it’s up to the government to make the kind of change to these owners. It has to have fan involvement.

“We can’t have owners like this. They’re invisible to us as Arsenal fans, they’re silent. The only time they make themselves present is when something ridiculous like this comes along and they can fill their pockets.”
