Gary Lineker says Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris had a ‘really good’ World Cup, despite France losing the final to Argentina on Sunday, as he told Match of the Day.
The BBC presenter shared that the issue with Tottenham’s number one is that he just ‘doesn’t save penalties’, which is something his counterpart is an expert at.
Aston Villa’s Emi Martinez saved Kingsley Coman’s penalty, as well as forcing Aurélien Tchouaméni to drag his penalty wide, as the South American giants beat the European powerhouses via a penalty shootout.
Whilst Lloris wasn’t able to produce the goods in the shootout, overall, he stood up for his country in their way of making back-to-back finals.
Even though Lloris already has a World Cup winners medal around his neck from 2018, this defeat will sting, as Lineker shared his thoughts on the player.
“Lloris had a really good World Cup,” said Lineker. “But he just doesn’t save penalties.”

Prior to the World Cup, Lloris’ form on the domestic circuit was being questioned, with the 35-year-old producing a number of error-prone performances – notably against Newcastle United.
But when he donned the colours of France in Qatar, his form flipped and Spurs fans will be hoping he brings some of that magic back to the Premier League, even if his morale will be on the floor.
