Leeds United suffered a thumping defeat at Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon, but it could have been different had Patrick Bamford’s disallowed goal been allowed to stand.

The Whites faced a tricky trip to Selhurst Park, and fell behind when Scott Dann headed home Eberechi Eze’s corner – and Leeds thought they had levelled.

Mateusz Klich picked out Bamford, and he finished beautifully to seemingly draw Leeds level, only for the goal to be bizarrely ruled out for offside.

Bamford pointed for where he wanted the ball, and with the top of his arm offside, the goal was disallowed – much to the bemusement of many.

Eze then made it 2-0, and whilst Bamford did get his goal, Palace scored another two as Helder Costa’s own goal and a Jordan Ayew strike sealed a 4-1 win.

Marcelo Bielsa will attempt to look for answers over the international break, but many will be baffled by Bamford’s strike being ruled out.

Gary Lineker took to Twitter to share his view, using just one word to describe the incident – absurd.

Lineker clearly feels that the goal should have stood, and he echoed the views of many as the controversy seemed to confuse fans and neutrals alike.
