Gary Lineker has told a Newcastle United fan on Twitter that his initial tweet about Tottenham Hotspur and PIF was a joke.

Lineker was following the Premier League game between Newcastle and Tottenham last night.
The game was played at St. James’ Park.
It was the first Newcastle match under the new regime.
Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) bought the Premier League club from Mike Ashley.

Steve Bruce’s side actually took the lead against Spurs, but eventually they went down 3-2.
After the match, former Tottenham striker Lineker said on Twitter that PIF should have bought Spurs, not Newcastle.
One Newcastle fan did not like that and responded to Lineker.

Newcastle are not suddenly going to sign world-class players.
