Gary Lineker has taken to Twitter to react after the Guardian revealed Florentino Pérez’s stance on Manchester City’s Super League withdrawal.
Speaking on the late-night Spanish radio show El Larguero, Pérez blamed one Premier League club for the collapse of the Super League.
The Guardian understand he was referring to Manchester City.
The 74-year-old said: “There was one of the English clubs who didn’t seem so interested and that spread to the rest. They signed the contract but we could already see that that they were not convinced. And then the avalanche started.”
After seeing the news, Lineker wrote the following three-word tweet.
If this is the case, we should be extremely grateful to the Citizens.
After the protests at Stamford Bridge, the footballing world seemed to think Chelsea caused the collapse of the Super League.

However, it now seems as if Pep Guardiola’s side were responsible, due to their hesitance and lack of conviction.
Having said that, the Premier League leaders still put pen to paper on Perez’s project, so can they really be applauded that much?

It remains to be seen what happens to Manchester City after they withdrew from the Super League.
The Daily Mail revealed that all six Premier League clubs have lost at least £8 million so far, with heavier financial punishments potentially on the horizon.
After all, the English sextuple signed a contract, so they deserve any punishment that comes their way for partaking in this elitist nonsense.
