Gary Lineker has taken to Twitter to react after Everton recorded a 1-0 win over Manchester United in the Premier League at Goodison Park.

What’s the story?

Well, Lineker was keen to stress just how big a win this was for Everton, while also aiming a brutal dig at Manchester United.

The BBC Match of the Day pundit said it was “only” the Red Devils Everton were up against, as if to suggest they’re nothing special nowadays.

In truth, they really aren’t.

You can see what Lineker wrote on Twitter in full below.

As things stand, the Toffees are now four points above Burnley – and the relegation zone – although the Clarets do have a game in hand.

The win over Manchester United has given Frank Lampard a bit of respite, but the chances of relegation are still alarmingly high.

Everton must build on win over Manchester United

Beating the Red Devils was a massive achievement, although the task for Everton is to now build on it.

Since Lampard arrived, there has been no consistency whatsoever.

The 43-year-old’s first game in charge was a 4-1 win over Brentford, which was followed by a woeful 3-1 defeat to Newcastle at St James’ Park.

Then, there was a win against Leeds, followed by two losses, then a win over Boreham Wood, followed by another two defeats.

After the 1-0 win over Newcastle, three losses followed, so if Lampard can somehow get Everton to win back-to-back games, it could be the difference between survival and relegation for the Toffees.
