Gary Lineker says one Tottenham Hotspur defender ‘outstanding’ vs Arsenal

Much has been made about the performance of James Maddison and Son Heung-min for Tottenham Hotspur against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, but one Spurs player who is not being talked about much after the North London derby is Micky van de Ven.

Micky van de Ven, who joined Tottenham Hotspur from VfL Wolfsburg in the summer transfer window, started against Arsenal in the North London derby on Sunday.

Spurs played out a 2-2 draw with Arsenal.

South Korea international forward Son Heung-min scored both goals for Spurs.

England international attacking midfielder James Maddison provided the assist.

Micky van de Ven impressive for Tottenham Hotspur vs Arsenal

One of the best players for Tottenham against Arsenal was Micky van de Ven.

The defender made a terrific early tackle on Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah.

The 22-year-old Dutchman was brilliant at the back throughout his time on the pitch, was very calm and composed even under pressure, and played with a maturity beyond his years.

The youngster had a pass accuracy of 94.2%, won one header, took 60 touches, and made one tackle, one interception and four clearances.

Van de Ven has made six appearances in the Premier League and has played once in the Carabao Cup for Spurs so far this season.

And former Tottenham striker and Match of the Day presenter on BBC One Gary Lineker was impressed.

Lineker said about Van de Ven on The Rest is Football podcast: “Van de Ven, I thought, was outstanding again alongside Romero.”
