Gary Lineker has taken to Twitter after hearing what Newcastle star Kieran Trippier and Raheem Sterling did for a reporter at the 2022 World Cup.

What’s the story?

Well, Lineker reacted to a story from Carrie Brown – a reporter working in Qatar for the World Cup.

Speaking live on beIN Sports, Brown opened up on the difficulty she experienced video calling her parents back in the United Kingdom, who both suffer from dementia and did not believe she was in Qatar.

During unsuccessful attempts to convince them, which included showing World Cup branding, the pitch and even the England dugout, Brown reveals that Sterling and Trippier then hopped in front of the camera to say hello.

Brown went on to mention how special that moment was to her personally – more than any goal England scored at the World Cup – as well as the staff who work at the care home.

You can see her story below, as well as Lineker’s reaction to it.

Of course, it doesn’t sound like much from Sterling and Trippier, although the pair were surely up to their eyeballs in media work, training and other duties for England, so it is nice to hear about them giving up some time to help Brown.

World Cup 2022 was a positive for England

It goes without saying that everybody in England will be disappointed after the gutting nature of our 2-1 defeat to France.

However, the Three Lions were arguably the better side on the day, and every performance – perhaps barring the 0-0 draw with the United States – was highly impressive at the World Cup.

At the 2026 World Cup, when gems such as Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden and Declan Rice will be in their prime with tournament experience under their belts, the Three Lions will have an ever better chance of going all the way.
