Tottenham Hotspur boosted their hopes of a top four finish by beating Brighton and Hove Albion 1-0 on Tuesday night in a nervy performance.
Spurs lost 1-0 at Manchester City on Saturday, and were looking to get back to winning ways against a Brighton side who have won just twice in the league in 2019.
Mauricio Pochettino named an attacking side featuring Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen, Lucas Moura, Son Heung-min and Fernando Llorente, but Spurs toiled attempting to break Brighton down.
Spurs hit shot after shot at the Brighton goal, but Mat Ryan stood firm, whilst Lewis Dunk and Shane Duffy threw themselves at every ball to protect the clean sheet.
Chris Hughton’s side were left devastated late on though, as Eriksen unleashed a powerful left-footed effort from long-range into the bottom corner, breaking Brighton hearts and giving Spurs all three points.
It’s another clean sheet for Spurs at their new stadium, and they are certainly in the box seat to claim third place, and a subsequent return to the Champions League next season.
Ex-Spurs striker Gary Lineker took to Twitter to praise Spurs for a dramatic late win, pointing out that their new home has quickly become a fortress with four wins from four without even conceding a goal.
Micky Hazard also took to Twitter to react to the result, but summed up the feeling with just one word; phew.
