Gary Lineker has heaped praise on former club Tottenham Hotspur after their performance in the 2-2 draw against rivals Arsenal.

Tottenham Hotspur impressed Gary Lineker as they produced a battling performance away at Arsenal this afternoon.

Spurs made the short trip to the Emirates Stadium with few backing them for a win.

It’s been a decent start to the season under Ange Postecoglou but beating title-chasing Arsenal was a different matter.

Arsenal did take the lead as Bukayo Saka’s strike was deflected into the net by Cristian Romero.

Son Heung-min levelled it up, only for Saka to score from the spot as Romero was penalised for handball.

Son equalised again just moments later though as he slotted past David Raya to hand Tottenham a 2-2 draw.

Tottenham Hotspur battle back and impress Gary Lineker

This was another example of the progress made under Postecoglou even just a few months into his reign.

Tottenham continued playing the football they believe in – even after twice going behind.

Spurs didn’t back down and fans can be proud of their performance against a much-heralded team.

The performance certainly impressed Gary Lineker as he took to Twitter to praise his former club.

The Match of the Day host tweeted that this was a ‘hugely encouraging’ display from Tottenham, adding that they were ‘really good’ against Arsenal.

Tottenham fans suffered through fairly meek derby day performances under Nuno Espirito Santo and Antonio Conte.

Postecoglou took a completely different approach and it paid off with Spurs posing a threat to Arsenal once they had settled into the game.

There is still a long way for Tottenham to go, but this was another sign of the progress being made with Spurs well worth their point against the Gunners.
