Kyle Walker completed his £50 million switch from Tottenham Hotspur to Manchester City on Friday.
It brings to an end a story which has dominated much of the summer transfer window in Britain so far.
The 27-year-old right-back has been one of Tottenham’s most consistent players during his eight-year stint in North London, but is he worth £50 million?
Not according to ex-Spurs hero Gary Lineker, who labelled the fee as “mental” and jokingly asked what the England international would’ve cost if he could cross a football.
It is certainly a lot of money but if it helps Manchester City win the Premier League then Pep Guardiola won’t care one iota and, at the moment, neither will Tottenham fans.
For them, it gives Mauricio Pochettino something extra in the warchest as Spurs look to improve on their second-placed finish last season and go all the way.
Kieran Trippier is set to be given an extended chance in the team as right-back, but The Standard reported this week that Pochettino would sign £22 million-rated Ricardo Pereira as back-up to the England international.
