Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen celebrates scoring against Chelsea with his team-mates
Former Tottenham striker Gary Lineker has taken to Twitter this evening to react as Spurs lost 2-1 at Chelsea in the Premier League.
Whilst Spurs took a first-half lead through Christian Eriksen’s first Premier League goal of the season, Chelsea – who had won six in a row before tonight’s clash – hit back as Pedro and Victor Moses scored in each half to hand the Blues a win.
The result ended Tottenham’s remarkable unbeaten start to the Premier League season, and means that Mauricio Pochettino’s men have now won just one of their last ten games in all competitions.
The defeat also caps off a strange week for Spurs; they’ve gone from the euphoria of producing a stunning late fightback to beat West Ham United 3-2 last weekend to crashing out of the Champions League at Monaco in midweek.

Now, it’s another defeat at Stamford Bridge, where Spurs haven’t won since 1990, when they picked up a 2-1 win over their London rivals.
The match-winner on that day in February 1990 was Gary Lineker, as his 88th minute goal handed Tottenham a win against their London rivals – and even he wouldn’t have expected the drought to have gone on this long.

After tonight’s result, Lineker took to Twitter to react to the defeat, joking that the record – and Lineker’s goal in that last win at Stamford Bridge – will now be brought up yet again next season after yet another loss in West London.
Former Spurs goalkeeper Ray Clemence also reacted on Twitter, suggesting that it’s unfortunate that the record still stands for Tottenham, noting that they dipped in the second half of the game having impressed in the first half.
