Leicester City have made a big decision.
Leicester manager Claudio Ranieri
Leicester City have decided to sack manager Claudio Ranieri, the club confirmed in a statement on their official website.
The move comes less than a year after he won the Premier League title in his first season at the club, and 24 hours after a Champions League last 16 first leg loss to Sevilla.
Leicester’s form in 2017 has been woeful and the Foxes are locked into a relegation battle, with Ranieri’s players failing to recapture the magic of last season.
Former Leicester star and famous fan Gary Lineker reacted on Twitter to the news, suggesting the game of football has gone mad.
It is the second season in succession that a Premier League team have sacked their manager the year after winning the title, with Chelsea firing Jose Mourinho last time around.
Leicester are one place above the relegation zone with a one point gap, with Hull City, Crystal Palace and Sunderland below them.
Regardless of his sacking, Ranieri’s place in Leicester folklore is well established, and attention will now turn to who they decide on as a replacement.
