Leicester City capped a memorable few days by beating Burnley 3-0 at the King Power Stadium on Saturday.

The Premier League champions, who kicked off their Champions League campaign with a 3-0 win at Club Brugge in midweek, thumped the Clarets in what would have a relegation six-pointer two seasons ago.

Leicester’s £29 million man Islam Slimani marked his Premier League debut in style, scoring two of the Foxes’ three goals as Claudio Ranieri’s side finally begin hitting the right notes, after a difficult beginning of their title defence.

Former Tottenham Hotspur hitman Gary Lineker was smarting on Twitter, as he often is with regards to his Foxes these days.

And the ex-England striker acknowledged the Algerian’s contribution on Saturday, while reserving special praise for Riyad Mahrez, who won PFA Player of the Year last term.

Their Champions League win in Belgium acted as something of a distraction from their domestic woes, but Mahrez’s brace, added to Marc Albrighton’s opener, helped them enjoy a fine start to life among Europe’s elite.

Ranieri’s troops have a trilogy of tricky outings on the horizon, though. First, they host Chelsea in a League Cup encounter on Tuesday, before visiting Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United next Saturday afternoon.

Then, City host Porto in their next Champions League game, and they should, in theory, prove harder to beat than Brugge.
