Tottenham’s players fought hard against Barcelona and battle to the end in a 4-2 defeat.

Despite the game looking out of reach they twice halved the deficit and had chances to claim a 3-3 draw before Lionel Messi scored a fourth.

At the back Hugo Lloris was the only Tottenham player to come out of the game with his reputation damaged.

The World Cup winner was error prone throughout the game and a crazy decision in the second minute to rush out left the goal gaping.

Former Tottenham striker Gary Lineker used Twitter to say he was left confused by Lloris’ actions.

Most in the stadium were puzzled by Lloris’ decision and upon watching it back, it looked even worse.

Lineker did have some positive words for Tottenham striker Harry Kane, who scored their first goal, before Erik Lamela pulled another one back.

The defeat has left Tottenham with a steep hill to climb in order to qualify, with Inter Milan winning their game with PSV.

Spurs now need to record back to back wins over PSV to get back into the mix.
