Liverpool beat Southampton 2-1 at St Mary’s today, but the victory wasn’t as comfortable as it should have been for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Adrian made an absolute howler with seven minutes to go, passing the ball right into the path of former Reds hitman Danny Ings, who simply slotted into an open goal.

The Spaniard was a hero for Liverpool in midweek, saving Tammy Abraham’s spot-kick in the penalty shoot-out against Chelsea, and helping his side win the Super Cup.

Today could not have been more different, however.

Adrian, 32, joined the Merseyside outfit on a free transfer earlier this summer, and after Alisson injured his calf on the opening day of the season against Norwich, he has been thrust into the fold.

The former West Ham man is a decent keeper, but mistakes like that will get punished, and he cannot afford to make them against Arsenal next weekend.

Alisson could, of course, be back in time for the visit of the Gunners, and the Brazilian’s return to the first-team cannot come soon enough for Liverpool.
