Gary Lineker has taken to Twitter to react after Fabrizio Romano revealed some significant news about Liverpool target Pedri.

What’s the story?

Well, Romano is claiming that Barcelona have finally reached an agreement with Pedri over a new contract.

It comes after the Mirror revealed that Liverpool are eyeing the 18-year-old wonderkid, who had a £70m release clause in his contract.

Now, Romano has some bad news for Jürgen Klopp, as that release clause has suddenly increased by an astronomical amount.

The respected Italian journalist believes Pedri’s release clause is now worth €1bn – yes, one BILLION. For those of us on these shores, that equates to £849m.

In our view, pigs will fly before FSG consider paying even a fraction of that amount.

How did Gary Lineker react to the news about Pedri?

Unsurprisingly, Lineker was shocked at the size of Pedri’s new release clause.

You can see what the BBC Match of the Day pundit tweeted below.

It most certainly is a ‘helluva’ release clause, although it speaks volumes about how highly Barcelona rate the teenager.

Some have described Pedri as the second coming of Iniesta, with Luis Enrique stating that he reminded him of the Barcelona legend.

It should be noted that there are many players in Spain with enormous release clauses, so it’s not necessarily a case of a club having to pay £849m or Pedri goes nowhere.

For example, if the Spain international himself pushes for a move in a few years, a deal could happen for much less.

Having said that, it’s just become a lot harder for the Reds to get their hands on Pedri.
