Gary Lineker praised Arsenal attacking midfielder Emile Smith Rowe on BBC One on Saturday evening (8:02pm, January 9, 2021) for his performance against Newcastle United.

The former Tottenham Hotspur and England international striker, who now works as a presenter for BBC Sport, was impressed by the display produced by Smith Rowe during Arsenal’s 2-0 win against Newcastle at the Emirates Stadium in North London in the third round of the FA Cup on Saturday evening.

Lineker said on BBC One on Saturday evening (8:02pm, January 9, 2021) about Smith Rowe while agreeing with Arsenal legend Ian Wright: “He really is (quality). He looks a real player, real talent, took his goal very well.”

How did Emile Smith Rowe play against Newcastle United?

Smith Rowe is a rising star at Arsenal and appears to be a strong candidate to succeed Mesut Ozil as the creator-in-chief in the team.

The 20-year-old attacking midfielder, who has come through the Arsenal academy, scored the opening goal for the Gunners in extra time and was a problem for the Newcastle defence during his time on the pitch.

The youngster came on as a substitute in the 56th minute and showed just how much the Gunners needed his guile.

According to WhoScored, Smith Rowe took two shots, had a pass accuracy of 86.2%, won one header, took 46 touches, made two tackles and two interceptions, and put in one cross.
