It’s a new season but the same old problems for Arsenal.
The Gunners endured a disastrous start to the Premier League season tonight by losing 2-0 away Brentford, a newly-promoted club.
It was a shambolic and uninspired performance from Arsenal and if this sets the tone for their campaign, it’s going to be a very, very long one for head coach Mikel Arteta.
Sergi Canos fired the hosts into a 1-0 lead at the break, following a first half in which Arteta’s side created next to nothing.
And with 17 minutes remaining, Christian Noergaard doubled the Bees’ advantage and effectively killed off Arsenal’s chances of getting anything out of the game.
Here’s what Gary Lineker quipped during the game:
If there was a positive for Arsenal, it was Smith Rowe’s performance.
The 20-year-old academy product was comfortably the Gunners’ best player on a night when nobody on the away team really stood.
And Lineker has claimed that the youngster is going to be a ‘very good player’ for the club.
It must be noted that Arteta was missing some huge players in the form of Thomas Partey, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette.
But even still, this was Brentford’s night and had the Spaniard those three players available, you’d still have fancied Thomas Frank’s side, with the support behind them.
