Cristiano Ronaldo endured a difficult opening 45 minutes as Portugal and South Korea clashed at the World Cup, with Gary Lineker poking fun at him.
The Portugal No.7 suffered an embarrassing moment as he shied away from South Korea’s corner in the 27th minute, with the ball then bouncing off him and setting up Kim Young-gwon for a tap in to equalise.
Lineker didn’t actually mock that incident, but instead chose to tease Ronaldo after Ricardo Horta put Portugal 1-0 up in the 5th minute.
What’s the story?
Well, the BBC Match of the Day host teased Ronaldo for his desperate attempts to take a goal from Bruno Fernandes in Monday’s 2-0 win over Uruguay.
As you may have heard, the 37-year-old tried desperately to get his name attached to the opening goal of the Group H clash on Monday, although FIFA later confirmed that he did not touch the cross from Fernandes.
Just days after that incident, Lineker went on to post the following on Twitter earlier today after Horta’s goal.
We doubt Ronaldo will be pleased.
Nevertheless, Portugal’s talisman did not have much riding on today’s clash with South Korea, as his nation had already booked their place in the Round of 16 after a 3-2 win against Ghana was followed by the victory over Uruguay.
Ronaldo could make World Cup history
As things stand, the legendary Eusebio is Portugal’s all-time World Cup top scorer with nine goals, which remarkably all came in one tournament back in 1966 as Portugal finished third.
Ronaldo is currently on eight World Cup goals, so he has the chance to make World Cup history for his country if he can grab two more goals in Qatar.

The six-time Ballon d’Or winner has already smashed one record in Qatar, as he became the first man to score in five separate World Cup campaigns with his penalty against Ghana.
It looks set to be Ronaldo’s final World Cup, so keep an eye on his performances to see if he can make Portuguese footballing history.
