Gary Lineker has suggested (jokingly) on that Newcastle United could sign Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer transfer window on Match of the Day on BBC.

The Tottenham Hotspur legend believes that with the prospective new owners coming in, Newcastle will be able to afford any footballer on the planet.

According to The Daily Star, the takeover of the Magpies will be announced soon, with The Times reporting that Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) will own 80% of the Premier League club.

Lineker said on Match of the Day on BBC while discussing Mbappe to Newcastle with Alan Shearer and Ian Wright, as transcribed by The Chronicle: “Well, if the Saudi Arabians take over then they’d be able to afford anyone!”

Blockbuster transfer move

Lineker was obviously joking about Newcastle signing Mbappe, and the transfer is very, very, very unlikely this summer.

However, in the coming years, there is every possibility that the France international forward – who cost PSG £166 million in transfer fees, according to BBC Sport – could end up at St. James’ Park.

After all, 15 or so years ago, not many would have thought that Manchester City would have Pep Guardiola as their manager, and Sergio Aguero, Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva in their team.

For the time being, Newcastle fans should stay patient but optimistic about the future.
