Gary Lineker has taken to Twitter to react after Allan Saint-Maximin sent a message to Steve Bruce, following his departure from Newcastle.

What’s the story?

Well, just 13 days after Amanda Staveley and the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia ousted Mike Ashley, Bruce is gone too.

Less than two weeks at the helm, and PIF are making major changes.

Bruce’s departure was unsurprisingly celebrated by Newcastle fans, although Saint-Maximin clearly doesn’t share their hatred.

The £38,462-a-week man sent Bruce a heartwarming message, which Lineker described as ‘lovely’ – you can see the tweet below.

Evidently, Bruce had a big impact on the Frenchman, and it seems they shared a great relationship.

Was Steve Bruce treated harshly at Newcastle?

In our view, some of the criticism did go over the top at times.

We completely understand why Newcastle fans dislike Bruce, as the football was awful, results were poor, and he displayed a huge lack of awareness in his press conferences.

For example, telling the Toon Army that Newcastle played well most weeks, when they quite clearly didn’t, was just an insult to supporters.

Having said that, it was sad to hear Bruce tell Luke Edwards how he felt after being called ‘useless’ and ‘fat’.

Criticise his managerial ability all you want, but when it gets personal, that’s when things turn nasty.

It’s always easy to insult someone who you think is holding back your football club, but it’s vital to remember there’s a human being on the receiving end of such comments.
