Speaking on the Match of the Day Top 10 Podcast, Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer have been discussing James Ward-Prowse and his future.
The midfielder has established himself as one of the best players in England over the past few years, but despite continued good performances for Southampton, he’s not gotten a big transfer move.
Shearer speculated that a big club could come in for him this summer, and Gary Lineker probed about whether or not Shearer was alluding to a potential move to Newcastle.
What’s been said?
Lineker and his co-hosts discussed Ward-Prowse.
“Are you surprised a bigger club hasn’t gone in for him?” Lineker said when speaking about Ward-Prowse.
“Yes, I am surprised actually,” Micah Richards added.
“I don’t know, there could be a bigger club that will go in for him in the summer,” Shearer said in what could be perceived as a smug tone.
“Oh hello, do you have some inside information? I said big clubs though, not just wealthy clubs! I’m just kidding. No, but he is terrific,” Lineker said, alluding to a potential Newcastle move.

Should try
Of course, Lineker was only joking with Shearer about having potential inside information about Newcastle landing Ward-Prowse, but this is exactly the type of player the Magpies should be looking at.
English, experienced and incredibly talented, Ward-Prowse is exactly the type of player who could help Newcastle reach that next level in the coming seasons.
It may be hard to pry him out of Southampton – after all, he’s remained incredibly loyal over the years, but as we all know, money talks.
