West Ham United have added the Italy international to their ranks.
Gary Lineker has taken to Twitter to comment on West Ham United’s loan move for Simone Zaza, reminding everyone of his ill-fated contribution to Italy’s penalty shoot-out against Germany earlier this summer.
The 25-year-old has agreed a season-long loan move to the Hammers with the option to sign permanently next summer and West Ham manager Slaven Bilic will be hoping he can hit the ground running.
Zaza scored eight goals in 24 matches for Juventus last season and he previously found the net 21 times in 69 matches for Sassuolo and 18 times in 36 appearances for Ascoli.
Something of a journeyman, Zaza will be hoping to find a new long-term home in London but he will have to cast off the memory of his bizarre penalty against Germany at Euro 2016.
Zaza was brought off the bench specifically to take a spot kick in the quarter-final but a weird run-up was followed by an effort that prompted social media to go into meltdown at the time.
Referring back to that moment, Lineker greeted the news of the Hammers’ latest signing by writing, “Simone Zaza should be a good addition to the Premier League; especially if he takes West Ham’s penalties.”
