Barcelona look set to miss out on Liverpool’s Georginio Wijnaldum.
The Netherlands international is leaving Liverpool on a free transfer ahead of the expiration of his contract.
And for much of the last 12 months, it has seemed obvious that teaming up with Ronald Koeman at Camp Nou was the most obvious destination.
Even as recently as yesterday, Barca were getting ready to announce a deal [Marca] but the Liverpool midfielder is now heading to Paris Saint-Germain.
The Ligue 1 giants have gazumped their Spanish rivals and the French capital seems like it’s going to be Wijnaldum’s new home for the next few years.
Here’s what Gary Lineker wrote on Twitter in response to the transfer twist.
Fans of the Anfield club will miss Wijnaldum – and they certainly should.
The former Newcastle United midfielder has been a revelation since joining Jurgen Klopp’s side five years ago, playing a huge role in the club winning Premier League and Champions League titles in that time.
Wherever he winds up, he leaves Liverpool as something of a legend and the supporters will no doubt wish him well.
