Jack Clarke was arguably Leeds United’s best player on Friday night.

Every few years it seems that a very promising young player emerges from Leeds United’s youth system.

In years gone by, the Elland Road side have developed the likes of Lewis Cook, Charlie Taylor, Kalvin Phillips and Ronaldo Vieira, the latter of whom joined Sampdoria for £8 million last summer.

And the latest Thorp Arch gem might well be Jack Clarke.

The 18-year-old winger has shone in glimpses this season, but Friday’s 2-0 win over Derby County confirmed that Leeds have a quality player on their hands.

Clarke, who set up Kemar Roofe’s first-half opener, was arguably the best player on the pitch, before being substituted on 79 minutes.

And he even caught the eye of a certain Gary Lineker, who highlighted his performance on Twitter.

The win helped to give Marcelo Bielsa’s side a seven-point cushion in the automatic promotion places, though the other promotion-chasing teams play this afternoon.

If Leeds don’t reach the Premier League, then there will still have been many, many positives to be drawn from the season, and Clarke might be up there with the best of them.
