Gary Lineker and Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy have praised Leeds United on Twitter following the match against Liverpool this evening.

Leeds played against Liverpool away from home at Anfield in their opening game of the new Premier League season on Saturday evening.

The Whites gave a good account of themselves and made the Reds work hard, while also scoring past them as many as three times, although they lost 4-3.

It was a very entertaining game, and the performance of Leeds impressed former Tottenham Hotspur and Everton striker Lineker, who also praised City-owned winger Jack Harrison’s goal for the West Yorkshire outfit.

Mendy has responded to Lineker’s post on Twitter and has raved about Bielsa, with the 26-year-old France international left-back – now at Pep Guardiola’s City – having played under the Leeds head coach at French club Marseille.

Big statement from Leeds United

Leeds showed against Liverpool that they will play the same way they did in the Championship last season.

The Whites took the game to the Reds and were brilliant from start to finish, and other teams will know that they will not find it easy against the West Yorkshire club.
