Gary Lineker has said on Twitter that Everton left-back Lucas Digne should not have been sent off against Southampton on Sunday.
The former Everton striker believes that it was an accident, and that the 27-year-old was wrongfully dismissed.
Digne was shown a straight red card in the 72nd minute for a foul on Southampton right-back Kyle Walker-Peters.
The France international left-back caught the former Tottenham Hotspur defender on the back of his foot with his studs.
Lineker does not think that Digne meant to commit the foul and believes that it was an accident, as the Toffees lost the Premier League game 2-0 at St. Mary’s Stadium.
Bouncing back
The defeat to Southampton was Everton’s first of the season in the Premier League.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side are still at the top of the Premier League table, level on points with second-placed and Merseyside rivals Liverpool, who won the title last season.
The Toffees will be looking to bounce back from the loss to the Saints next weekend when they take on Newcastle United away from home at St. James’ Park in the Premier League.
