Gary Lineker has taken to Twitter to disagree with Ryan Mason’s comments about Harry Kane after Tottenham’s 2-2 draw on Thursday night.

Spurs showed something of a response to their embarrassing 6-1 defeat to Newcastle with a spirited fightback against Manchester United, coming back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 in N17.

Kane grabbed the assist for Heung-min Son to equalise, and after the game, Mason said: “Here in England people don’t appreciate how good Harry Kane is. He’s really incredible. Watching as a coach, it’s a pleasure.

“This country should appreciate we’ve got a really special talent. One of the best and most intelligent players in the world.”

Lineker does not agree with that verdict.

What’s the story?

Well, the BBC Match of the Day host believes England are more than aware of just how special Kane is.

Disputing Mason‘s comments on Twitter, Lineker wrote: “I think we do”.

In truth, we would have to agree with Mason, purely based on the narrative we hear whenever England are involved in a major tournament.

Kane is often mocked by England fans for simply being a “stadpadder” when it comes to international football, as a few of his goals have either come from the penalty spot or against small nations.

You rarely hear England supporters discuss how the 29-year-old can drop deep to influence a game, as he did in the buildup to Luke Shaw’s EURO 2020 final goal against Italy, or his unerring finishing skills.

Tottenham could lose Harry Kane

Spurs could genuinely lose their talisman this summer.

Kane only has 12 months remaining on his contract, so the upcoming window represents Tottenham’s last chance to make a sizeable amount of money from a sale unless he signs a new deal.

That seems unlikely to us, given the fact Tottenham’s No.10 handed in a transfer request back in 2021, and things have only got worse at Spurs since then.

The north Londoners are currently managerless and are also without a Director of Football after Fabio Paratici left due to his 30-month ban, so it will take a lot to convince Kane to stay.

Having said that, anything could happen this summer, so be sure to keep an eye on the situation.
