Gary Lineker has taken to Twitter to praise Joe Willock after he scored against Sheffield United, but also mocked Joelinton in the process.

The BBC Match of the Day host said it was ‘great’ to see Willock score for a sixth consecutive Premier League game.

However, Lineker then brought up the fact that Willock has now scored as many goals for Newcastle as Joelinton has across two seasons.

Now, that wasn’t necessary from the 60-year-old.

It was enough to praise Willock for his fine achievement, and leave it at that.

After all, the 21-year-old became the youngest player in Premier League history to score in six successive games.

Such a huge achievement should’ve been enough for Lineker to focus on, rather than take aim at Joelinton.

Of course, there’s no denying that the Brazilian has failed to live up to his £40 million price tag.

He knows that, the Newcastle supporters know that, and clearly Lineker knows that.

There is no need to remind the 24-year-old of his failings.

Criticism like this will only make it longer until Joelinton actually starts to find some confidence to his game.

Anyway, after goals against Tottenham, West Ham and Manchester City, Newcastle’s No.9 has netted three goals in his last seven Premier League games.

Of course, that isn’t incredible, but it’s definitely a sign that he might be coming into some form.

While he’s on the up, let’s not knock him back down again.
