Slaven Bilic, the Hammers boss, was already under huge pressure following West Ham’s 2-3 defeat against London rivals Tottenham Hotspur last week.
Fans were left frustrated with West Ham’s display at half-time and there were jeers and boos from a section of the home supporters.
Just when it seemed like it was going to be another frustrating afternoon for the Hammers, Sakho scored the winner in the 90th minute.
Sakho got on the end of Arthur Masuaku’s cross and slotted home from close range to secure an important victory for the home side.
West Ham laboured against a disciplined and organised Swansea side and fans jeered when Bilic made a double substitution – Masuaku and Sakho were introduced for Javier Hernandez and Andre Ayew.
The 49-year-old’s decision turned out to be a masterstroke, as the duo combined for the winner.
Former England striker Gary Lineker has praised Bilic’s tactical move on Twitter, saying it was “possibly job saving substitutions” by the 49-year-old.
