Tottenham Hotspur are set for a season at Wembley next term.
Gary Lineker has told Goal.com that Tottenham Hotspur won’t be long getting to grips with the challenge of playing their home games at Wembley next season.
Spurs will borrow the national stadium during the 2017-18 campaign while their new home at Northumberland Park is being completed.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side struggled at Wembley for their European ties last season, losing two of their three Champions League games, while the home leg of their last-32 Europa League tie with Gent ended 2-2.
With Tottenham scheduled to contest 19 Premier League matches there next term, it is important that the Lilywhites put their Wembley hoodoo to bed.
And Lineker, who spent three years at the club as a player, believes that his old side will indeed gradually become more familiar with the iconic arena.
“They will have the challenge to play at Wembley next season but they will get familiar with them. The familiarity will come,” he told Goal.com.
Tottenham finished second in the Premier League last term and were Chelsea’s primary rivals for much of the campaign. Harry Kane picked up the Golden Boot with 29 league goals, while Dele Alli enjoyed a fine second season in the top flight.
As a consequence, bigger clubs could come sniffing around their top talent over the summer months, and Lineker says it is a “big summer” for Pochettino and co.
“A lot depends on a big summer for Tottenham. It’s a big summer for them to decide what they are. They have to try to keep their best players,” he added.
