Manchester City tighten their grip on the Champions League spots with a fantastic 3-0 over Southampton at the St Mary’s on Saturday.
After a goalless first half, City sprung into life with a slick second-half display, lead by their skipper, Vincent Kompany.
The Belgian defender headed David Silva’s corner past Fraser Forster to score his first goal after 608 days.
Soon after Leroy Sane drilled in from a quick counter after picking up a pass from Kevin de Bruyne.
Sergio Aguero killed any hopes of a potential revival with a finely taken header in at the far-post to make it 3-0.
Gary Lineker, the BBC pundit, seemed very impressed with Man City’s fantastic second half performance. He tweeted:
With this victory, City have moved to third in the Premier League, one point above fourth-placed Liverpool who face West Bromwich Albion on Sunday.
Pep Guardiola, the City manager, was very happy with his side’s performance. The Spaniard was particularly pleased with his side’s creativity and possessional discipline.
City have shown solid defensive resilience today led by their skipper. They already boast of a lethal attacking set up, and if they can add defensive solidity to the side, it could be hard for Everton, Manchester United or Arsenal to dislodge them from the top four in the future.
